The LBFE chapters in Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago, Minneapolis/St Paul, San Francisco, Upper Michigan and the new site in New York all have the same Mission:
“LBFE is a national network of non-profit volunteer-based organizations committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. We offer to people of good will the opportunity to join the elderly in friendship and celebration of life.”
While the chapters have the autonomy to introduce programs to meet the specific needs of the older people in their communities, all are committed to establishing authentic and lasting relationships with isolated and/or lonely elders and have the following core programs*:

One-on-One Visits:
Through LBFE’s Visiting Volunteer Program, isolated elders enjoy the support, empathy and friendship of dedicated volunteers. Often building long-term friendships these volunteers can become like family members celebrating special occasions and enjoying life’s simple pleasures together.
Special Occasion Celebrations:
Holidays and birthdays are often the hardest time of the year for isolated older people. LBFE offers holiday visits and in-person events on many occasions throughout the year including but by no means limited to birthdays, Thanksgiving, July 4th, and Valentine’s Day.

Outings and Social Gatherings:
Through LBFE’s Visiting Volunteer Program, isolated elders enjoy the support, empathy and friendship of dedicated volunteers. Often building long-term friendships these volunteers can become like family members celebrating special occasions and enjoying life’s simple pleasures together.
* Since 1959 LBFE has continually adapted its programs to meet the needs of today’s older adults and our ever-changing society.
During this Covid-era LBFE is taking the utmost precaution by limiting in-person contact between volunteers and older adults whilst continuing to meet their needs. Programs have been adjusted to meet City and State guidelines and requirements. The health and safety of volunteers and the elders we serve is our first priority.
